So, we load our stuff into Big Timbre this evening, and begin setting up for a weekend recording session. We're feeling good about it & looking forward to it. It is fun to feel a recording taking a direction, different from the last, with a new texture and vibe. I think this new one will have a little less guitar-centeredness and more spaciousness, with Ryan's keys playing a big role in many of the arrangements. We know most of the songs pretty good.
This was good show, a Steven Soderbergh/George Clooney production. I am digging the new REM record, and reading Chuck Klosterman's rock travelogue Killing Yourself to Live. It is very clever and funny and occasionally betrays a thrice-removed enthusiasm for music. Honest enjoyment: the new frontier. After all, we live in a culture that takes more interest in photos of actresses chewing with their mouths open than interest in the movies they're in. As antidote I will go up in Tim Boyden's tree house and read Henry James. That is my art/pop dipstick paragraph for today.
