ALBUM ART MOCKUP

I started messing around with album art for our live record of previously unreleased tunes. This changes up the usual pallete quite a bit.

100 DAY POSTCARD CHALLENGE, DAY 48: DAN JONES AND THE SQUIDS

I did this design in a few places--the lobby of Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor's office, and also sitting at a sidewalk table in the sun, in front of Monarch Coffee on Broadway.

I finished it off during the VP debate, posted it on Facebook, and sold one a few minutes later on Redbubble.  There are a few different products at my Redbubble shop, including iPad skins, stickers, etc.

I am re-reading The Odyssey (2018 Emily Wilson translation).  I don't remember much about the translation I read in Honors Lit back in the late 80's but this one is a good story.

SQUIDS, SATURDAY 7/28 @ MINIBAR

***

I checked out this record by Egyptology yesterday, kind of spooky ambient synth music for driving through the lunar landscape of Lenexa, KS.

Later I checked out this George FitzGerald techno record and really like it. After a few months of checking out new music and bouncing around from genre to genre (seeming to land on space rock, ambient rock, motorik-guitar music, and African pop and soul much of the time) I fired up Circle Jerks Wild In The Streets

Very comfy and goofy, like an old Chevette full of empty QT fountain drink cups and cassette tapes on the floorboards.

TRACKING AT TEMPLE SOUNDS

I got lead vocals done on the new Squids project Saturday at Temple Sounds, and Matt, Alex, and Steve added some backing vocals as well.

We'll be playing a show at The Brick on Friday 5/18 with The Grave Escape and Dead Voices.

FINAL DAY IN AUSTIN

LOS WILDS

BAYWAVES

Add caption

My final day in Austin (Sunday) was super fun, catching a couple of Madrid bands that were the highlight of the weekend music, for me.  Los Wilds are a skinny-jeaned 5-headed organism spreading the gospel of sexy crazy garage rock all over your brain pan, and Baywaves are groovy Euro-dreampop with a bass player who moves like one of those whacky waving inflateable signs you see in front of the auto dealership.  (I think he could also take over bass duties for Yes, if they need him).  Both just delightful.

I also saw a turtle family walking along the lake with Graham.

Driving 11 hours on my birthday was not totally ideal but it started with another round of cactus breakfast tacos, was a nice day, and Alex bought me a new lid at a Texas truckstop.

I spend some time answering Facebook birthday wishes this morning, always fun.

DAY 2 OF RECORDING

We had another productive evening at Temple Sounds, finishing the basics on 7 tunes.
